About Greenhouse Score
We help growers choose, build, and run greenhouses that fit their exact microclimate—so they harvest more and worry less. Everything we publish is grounded in field data, practical builds, and a clear rubric we call the Four Seasons Score.
Mission Statement
- Design-by-Climate: Pair every structure and add-on to the grower’s zone, site conditions, and goals.
- Buy once, grow for years: Favor durability, passive-first efficiency, and modular paths over throwaway gear.
- Radical transparency: Show the tradeoffs, lifetime costs, and real-world performance—not just specs.
Our Brand Story Most greenhouse advice starts with a catalog. Ours starts in your yard. Greenhouse Score began when a late-winter snowstorm collapsed a “rated” kit for one of our founders while a neighbor’s simple lean-to sailed through the same night. That contrast sent us down a multi-year path of testing snow/wind tolerance, heat retention, ventilation efficiency, UV resilience, and assembly complexity across zones 3–10. We instrumented frames, logged temperatures and humidity, and tracked failures and fixes through real storms and heat waves.
Out of that testing we built the Four Seasons Score: a standardized way to compare kits by what matters in the real world—durability under weather, interior climate stability, and how straightforward the build actually is. A short climate/site quiz maps you to right-sized structures, passive-first climate control (orientation, glazing, vents, shade), and modular upgrades (irrigation, benches, automation) that match your crops and budget.
What You’ll Find Here
- Head-to-head comparisons scored for snow load, wind resistance, ventilation rate, and UV stability
- Code-aware site planning: anchoring, drainage, HOA/permit tips, and safety considerations
- Transparent TCO checklists: glazing thickness tradeoffs, heating/cooling efficiency, and spare-part realities
- Field-tested assembly guidance: realistic time estimates, labeled hardware tips, and pro-install options
Our Team (Author Personas)
- Horticulturist & Climate Modeler: Aligns crop needs with zone-specific airflow, shading, and humidity targets.
- Structural Engineer: Evaluates frames, fasteners, anchoring, and load paths for snow/wind resilience.
- Build Lead & Educator: Creates step-by-step, classroom-tested assembly guides with accessibility in mind.
- Energy & Controls Specialist: Designs passive-first strategies, then layers efficient heating/cooling and automation.
- Data & Methods Editor: Oversees testing protocol, scoring integrity, and the transparency of our datasets.
Together, we’re here to make greenhouse decisions simpler, safer, and more successful—season after season.
